How much is a pentax p30 worth

So anyway, what about the photos? It has a rubbery take up spool which the film is supposed to stick to. This appears to not have worked very well for the first few frames as I had a bit of overlap that resulted in some pretty cool multiple exposures. From there on out though, it did a great job. The Pentax P30 reads the DX code off the film canister and has no exposure compensation or manual override so the roll of Streetpan was shot at box speed.

The results are definitely toward the more contrasty end of the spectrum, but the look to the images here is exactly what I had in mind when I was shooting. I used and still have a P I loved this camera and never found an overlapping frame issue. I liked the way it displayed the info in the lower viewfinder and it was very simple to alter your settings. I always used Fujifilm as I loved the vivid reds and greens. I now use a KS2. Some third party lenses from that era have electrical contacts for Pentax and Ricoh as well.

Nice find and article. In Program Auto mode the shutter speed chosen by the camera is shown on the left-hand side of the viewfinder.

The P series definitely looks cool. Also, they always have light seals and mirror dump foam in perfect condition because of their age. Incidentally, the later Pentax P30N and P30T models added an aperture-priority auto mode, so could provide automatic but not program exposure even with K or M lenses.

Cleverly, Chinon managed to offer program modes as well as manual and aperture priority on the CP-series of cameras with any PK lens. Thanks, Dave, I shall have a look.

I put it back down quite quickly though… it felt horrible. How are the chinons in the hand? Hi, Hamish. The Chinons of that era handle more like the contemporary Ricohs than Pentax P30s, unfortunately. While all three have a metal chassis with plastic external panels, the Pentax feels better to me with higher quality materials, fit and finish.

Your mileage may vary, etc. Hmm, I suspect I will find similar. Thank You, enjoyed the write up. The p30n version added aperture priority mode as a much needed workaround for pre A lenses.

But, normally, a well preserved copy gently used by amateurs should be expected to work. I had no problem initially with the P30, but the P30n and the P30t I bought afterwards have the same issue: a single action on the winding lever is not enough to cock the shutter: the P30n generally requires two very slow actions which means every other frame is wasted , and the P30t only cocks the shutter after multiple and extremely slow actions on the winding lever, when it does at all.

The reliability issues mentioned above probably play their part here. But the risk that is does not is simply too high. My verdict: avoid. Out of the three P30s I recently purchased, only one was usable.

It made the trip to Savannah in my photo equipment bag. But after it refused to fully rewind the roll of film I had just exposed, it also found itself out of commission, leaving me with no choice but to finish the week-end with the excellent and so far, reliable Fujifilm Xt. Except for a loose film door, I have never had any issues using the camera. I use a rubber band to hold the film door close. The year-old P3 performed flawlessly. More about it in another post.
